Club Bylaws

The Citadel Club of Greater Washington (CCGW) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has three foci:  supporting our local cadets, supporting  Citadel alumni in the DC metropolitan area, and promoting our alma mater. CCGW alumni have a broad and unique set of skills and talents that are strategically deployed to enhance The Citadel's mission to develop principled leaders.

Club Leadership

Club Officers:

Scott Nahrgang Colonel Scott J. Nahrgang, ’96, USAF, retired, currently develops cloud strategy for the Oracle National Security Group. A 25-year intelligence officer, Scott earned a BA in English from The Citadel, an MS in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a certificate in legislative affairs from the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University. He is also a graduate of Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, NATO Defense College, and Joint and Combined Warfighting School.

While on active duty, Scott served as an aide-de-camp, collection manager, targeting officer, U.S. Senate legislative fellow, policy advisor and executive officer to SecDef Representative-Europe, and commander of an intelligence squadron and an intelligence group. He also served as a special assistant to the Assistant SecDef for Legislative Affairs.

As a cadet, Scott was a cadet corporal, sergeant, and lieutenant in Hotel Company then captain on the Second Battalion staff. He was designated a Distinguished Air Force Student and earned Gold Stars. Scott is a life member of The Citadel Alumni Association; CAA District Director 2016-2021; CAA Ring Committee 2013-present; Tampa Bay Citadel Club, 2003-2006; DC Citadel Club, 2008-2011/2019-present; San Angelo Citadel Club, 2011-2013; BENELUX Citadel Club, 2014-2017.

Scott has been married to Ashley Burleson of Richfield, NC, since 2005.

Chuck Eassa Charles “Chuck” Eassa was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery in the United Stated Army on May 17, 1986 after graduating with a Business Administration Degree from the Citadel.

Starting in Kilo Company, Chuck formed a strong bond that continues today with his classmates. He served as a Cadet Corporal, Company Clerk, and Supply Sergeant before earning the rank of Cadet Captain to command “F” Troop his senior year. He was also active in the Cordell Airborne Rangers and received the honor of being designated a Distinguished Military Graduate from the ROTC leadership.

Upon completing Field Artillery Basic Officers’ Course and Nuclear Cannon Assembly Course, Chuck completed a series of tactical assignments as a platoon leader, fire direction officer and fires planner at Fort Sill and then Baumholder, Germany. He was selected to serve as an Advisor to a Georgia National Guard Field Artillery unit in Elberton, Georgia before being transferred to Fort Leavenworth, KS to serve at Battle Command Training Program as an exercise planner and exercise director. While earning his first master’s degree at the Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies, the Army selected him to be branch transferred and lead the vanguard of newly designated Information Operations career field. In that role, he served in multiple capacities from V Corps IO officer and planner for the Invasion of Iraq to ultimately serving on the Joint Staff Operations Division. His deployments include Operation Vigilant Sentinel where he served as the aide-de-camp to the commanding general, planner for Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom.

After retirement, Chuck joined Georgia Tech Research Institute where he has served as an Interpersonnel Government Agreement with the Department of Defense’s Strategic Capabilities Office nested in the Office of Secretary of Defense. In this capacity, he has served in multiple roles from Director of Operations to Senior Representation for SCO in Stuttgart, Germany.

Along his journey, Chuck has earned multiple honors and degrees. He holds a Masters of Business Administration from Brenau University, a Masters of International Security from the US Army War College and a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He has contributed to several publications to include a Mass Atrocities Response Option Handbook published jointly between the US Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute and the Kennedy School lead by Dr. Sarah Sewell, the former Secretary of State for Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights.

He is married to the former Patricia Kathleen Duggan and they have two wonderfully creative daughters. They both enjoy hiking, travel, and adventure. They both are active in the Citadel Club of Greater Washington and enjoy seeing Chuck’s classmates and new Alumni friends.

Boykin Jordan Mr. Boykin B. Jordan, Jr. is an information technology (IT) expert and founder of Cyber Smart, an IT professional services and cyber security consulting company. Prior to working at Cyber Smart, Mr. Jordan worked as President/CEO of Cyber Smart Pros and IT professional services and cyber security consulting company. As President of Dyoptics, he provided database development and data visualization services to a Department of Defense client. During his successful 26-year Air Force career, he earned a Bronze Star and served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) leading a 545-person IT staff and providing IT services to 9,000 users.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Government Information Leadership from the National Defense University in Washington, DC. Mr. Jordan also holds a MBA with a Computer Resources Management emphasis from Webster University in Saint Louis, MO. He completed his undergraduate work at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

His executive professional development includes certificates from the National Defense University for Chief Information Security Officer and the Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation. Mr. Jordan currently holds the professional certifications as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Project Management Professional (PMP), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).

Mr. Jordan is the treasurer of the InfraGard National Capital Region Members Alliance chapter. As treasurer, Mr. Jordan guided chapter efforts to regain its 501(c)3 non-profit status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and implementing sustainable financial management practices. In 2019, his efforts were recognized nationally by InfraGard at the Annual Congress. He is an active member of the Citadel Club of Greater Washington (CCGW). Mr. Jordan served as CCGW’s treasurer from 2009 thru 2017 and is currently serving as CCGW’s secretary (since 2021). He is also the Membership Committee Chair and Chair-Elect for The Citadel’s Science and Mathematics Council for the Swain School of Science and Mathematics. Mr. Jordan is a member of the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in Fairfax County, Virginia. He is a life member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Mr. Jordan has been married to his high school sweetheart, Bonita, for 38 years. They have one son and one daughter. They reside in Springfield, VA – a Washington, DC suburb.

Ryan Birkelbach Commander Ryan L. Birkelbach is a native of Kentucky. He graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics.

His naval career as a surface warfare officer includes assignments on the guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) as First Lieutenant, Electrical Officer, and Navigator. In 2005 he deployed on Normandy as part of Task Force 58 and conducted maritime security operations in the Persian Gulf. In 2007 he deployed again on Normandy in support of Standing NATO Maritime Group 1; the deployment included Combined operations in the Baltic and Mediterranean, a transit above the Arctic Circle, and a circumnavigation of Africa. As a department head, he served on the guided-missile destroyer USS Mahan (DDG 72) as Chief Engineer, completing a Mediterranean ballistic missile defense deployment in 2013. His second department head tour was at Destroyer Squadron 28 as Materiel Officer, responsible for the materiel readiness, engineering, and damage control proficiency for eight Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. Additionally, he served as the squadron’s navigation assessor. His most recent afloat assignment was onboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) as Damage Control Assistant, deploying to the Persian Gulf from late 2019 to mid-2020.

Ashore, CDR Birkelbach served as a personnel exchange officer to the German Navy in Kiel, Germany. In 2012 he earned a Master’s of Science degree in Systems Engineering Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. In 2016 he was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Assessment Division (OPNAV N81), Washington, DC, as a Joint campaign analyst. From January 2018 to April 2019, he served as the Campaign Development Branch Head leading the development and execution of campaign and mission level analysis, including major combat operations and conventional campaigns in support of Office of the Chief of Naval Operations warfighting capabilities assessments. He served as an action officer in the Commander’s Action Group at Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic (SURFLANT) from November 2020 to July 2021. In 2022, he earned a Master’s of Science degree in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the National Defense University’s Joint Advanced Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. He currently serves as a strategist on the Joint Staff, J7 Directorate for Joint Force Development, Washington, DC.

CDR Birkelbach decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various other service medals and unit awards.

CDR Birkelbach is a member of Christ the King Anglican Church, Alexandria, Virginia. He is an life member of The Citadel Alumni Association. He is an Assistant Cubmaster and a Commissioner in the Old Dominion District, National Capital Area Council, BSA. He is married to the former Jane Baker of Johns Island, South Carolina. They reside in Springfield, Virginia and have four children.
