Join CCGW in welcoming our December Saturday Morning Social guest speaker and award-winning author, John C. Warley, Jr. ('67).
John is best known as the author of The Citadel’s War Memorial inscription and narrative history entitled The Citadel at War. Born in Florence, S.C., he entered Lesesne Gate in August 1963 as a recruited athlete on a football scholarship. Prior to graduation in 1967, he served as a cadet officer, a member of the Round Table, a DMS, and was selected for Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. He won varsity letters in football and baseball.
His father, John C. Warley, Sr., was a member of the class of 1930, and his oldest son, John Caldwell Warley, III, is a 1996 graduate having served as the chairman of the Honor Committee. John took his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1970 and practiced law for many years before becoming a full-time writer.
He is the award-winning author of six novels and a history of The Citadel, Stand Forever, Yielding Never, The Citadel in the 21st Century.

In May 2024, The Citadel awarded him the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters for his work on The Citadel War Memorial and his book on Citadel history. He lives and writes in Beaufort, S.C.
